Well its been two weeks since my last entry. My intention was to
write entries more frequently, but as I'm sure you know, life can be very
Repairing a Television
On Monday and Tuesday evening this week, my Dad and I were trying to fix my Bush 6690D television as for about two months the picture would suddenly go black, meaning that you had to push down on a certain part of the circuit board to get the picture back again - not an ideal situation. We eventually found two broken solder points on the board, which we fixed and its now as good as new.
TWAIN for NoteBook
I have released version 5.1.0 of NoteBook with the new scanning function. Unfortunately, two days ago, I found that it does not work with all types of sources. When I tried acquiring an image using HP's source software, which came with my scanner, NoteBook regained focus after its splash screen had disappeared. This meant that the scan button did not work and the only way to close the window was to close NoteBook. Therefore I will need to find a new DLL or ActiveX control for this purpose, but all the ones I have found so far have too many features and therefore cost more than I really want to pay. All I need is one that will allow the user to select the source and then acquire an image to a bitmap file.
The wheels that I ordered for my car will hopefully be arriving on Monday. This means that I have had to take the day off work. If they do not turn up, I will not be very happy and someone will be receiving negative feedback. It has been about 9 weeks since I paid for them.
I may be applying for a job at the RSPCA in Southwater. There are a few jobs going in their IT department, which I think I would like to do. As I have been working for Royal & SunAlliance for the last 7 years in an admin role, I think it may be time to move on to something more challenging.

New Camcorder and Courier Rant
I have just invested in a camcorder, which is something I have not owned before. It is a Sony Mini DV Handycam DCR-HC37, which I bought from my local Argos. I might have got it cheaper online, but my recent experience with the alloy wheels I bought from eBay (which still have not turned up), has left me temporarily wary of buying this way. The main problem with buying online, I think, is that unless you are around when they try to deliver the item, it will either be returned to the sender or you will have to collect it at a local depot. Unfortunately most people are at work when couriers try to deliver, unless you opt for a more expensive Saturday delivery. It is not really convenient to take a whole day off work just to wait for an item to be delivered, which could be anytime 'before 5'. In the case of my eBay purchase, I wasn't given the choice to get the wheels delivered on Saturday. I did offer to collect the wheels myself as they are only about 80 miles away from me, but for some reason the seller did not want me to do this.
Anyway back to the camcorder. I have always wanted one, but until recently they were too expensive. As DVD, HDD and HD camcorders are now appearing in shops, the older Mini DV format has gotten cheaper. When I have gone on holiday or on days out, I have used my digital camera, but I think that people get a better idea of what the holiday/day is like when it is captured on film. I haven't used it yet, but tomorrow I am going to Brockham fireworks display, which gives me a chance to try it out.
TWAIN for NoteBook
As for my NoteBook program, I have now created the Form, which allows for pictures to be acquired using TWAIN and then saved into JPEG (thanks to some code I found on Planet Source Code). Now I just need to get the 'Open', 'Add into NoteBook' and 'Save' buttons working.
As the power supply for my HP Scanjet 2400 scanner has failed (again), I can only test it out using my webcam at the moment.
