Blog2k 2.0.1

Today, I compiled version 2 of Blog2k, which has the following new features:

  • Improved toolbar with new icons and keyboard shortcuts
  • Resizable window
  • 'Save and Exit' option on File menu
  • New Options window allowing changing of font and colour, changing of blog folder location and the ability to set a custom file extension and index filename
  • Much improved table generator

The main motivation for doing this is the intention to sell the program as I believe that it will be useful for many people who have their own website and want more control over things like their blog instead of using a dedicated web based application. Blog2k uses templates, which are fully customisable meaning you can tailor the look to suit your website.

The price I will sell for is 5 GBP (about $8 USD). This is the same as NoteBook

and my other applications. Hopefully this will actually sell as so far I have not been that successful, despite the fact that I believe that I create quality apps!

I will need to add the 'demo version' aspect to the app so that people can try it out. I have decided that instead of creating a helpfile, I will just get the program to go directly to the help section to the app's website (which I also need to create). When I get the time, I will do these things! Also it's probably a good idea to stop more than one instance of the program running at once...

Oblige

I have been using a random Doom level generator called Oblige for a while now. It is a very impressive piece of software, creating complex and interesting levels. Accoring to the Oblige website, "The goal is to produce high quality levels which are fun to play.", which it does.

Here is an example of the complexity of one level as generated by version 4.28:

I have enjoyed adding the ZDoom Beastiary monsters to the levels, however the script file, which has generates them does not seem to work with 4.28. I have submitted a version to the Oblige forum, which I have attempted to fix with the hope that someone there can finish it off.

Bejeweled Blitz

I have to confess that recently, I have become quite hooked on this game on my iPhone 3G. If you don't know how to play, you basically have to line up 3, 4 or 5 gems/jewels in a row of the same colour. In the Blitz version, which is free from the App Store, you have 1 minute to get as many points as possible. I have a screenshot below of when I got my personal record of 321,450! Unfortunately my iPhone could not handle taking a screenshot with the game running and so caused it to crash to my annoyance.

I have the iPhone 5 on order and I intend to review it here after I've used it for a while.

NoteBook

I use my NoteBook application on almost a daily basis for various reasons.  Today, I wanted to show the various ways in which I use it.  For those who don't know, NoteBook allows you to store multiple documents (pages) in one file.  There is a full Rich Text Editor, which allows you to choose fonts and and text formatting options (e.g. bold, italic etc.).  Types of pages that can be stored include Rich Text Format, plain text, HTML, pictures (.GIF, .JPEG, .PNG, and .BMP), images from your scanner/webcam via TWAIN (beta), sound (MP3, MIDI, WAV, and WMA), and any other file, which can be launched from within NoteBook.  All of these are stored in one file, which can be password protected.

Here are some of the ways in which I use it myself:

As a way of keeping track of my job applications

BMW Show at Santa Pod

On the 16th September, I went to the Santa Pod BMW Show. There were people racing their cars up the track, stands, drift passenger rides and cars on display. Also on the track was a demo of the impressive FireForce Jet Funny Car (click the link to watch my YouTube video of this when I went earlier in the year). I went with my brother who owns a 2006 BMW 330d.

Here are a few snapshots of the day (unfortunately I forgot my camera, so I had to use my iPhone 3G instead :/):
