martin2k Software Update

I'm very happy to report that martin2k Software now has an amazing 528 apps! This is an increase of 459 since this time last month.

As the number of PAD files I have receive on a daily basis is now greater than my app can cope with, I have released version 2, which automates the process a lot more than before meaning that I can now process several per minute.

As the number per sub category has also increased, the program is able to divide apps over multiple pages, where there are 20 per page.

My Configuration File control made it very easy to store information about the apps including the order in which they were added, making the most recent 50 apps list easy to automatically generate.

New Forum DB

On 19th March, my website host 1&1 sent me an e-mail to inform me that my MySQL 4.0 database will be decommissioned in favour of the newer MySQL 5 format. This meant that I had to use phpMyAdmin to export all the data from the older to the newer DB. The process took me over an hour, mainly because two large tables were timing out when importing due to their large size. As a result, I had to import them bit by bit - a few thousand SQL statements at a time.

A few days later, the forum members began to notice that error messages were appearing when accessing certain topics, stating that the topic was not found. It turns out that I had somehow missed some of the statements when importing. I therefore had to use a custom SQL command to locate the missing data and then import this. Luckily, the MySQL 4.0 database will remain until the end of the month.

Until Next Time...

Hopefully next time, I'll be able to give some more computing tips, which I've been hoping to do for a while. Perhaps I can do this over the weekend, but it is past midnight now... :(
