PROJECT FLUG 2012

It's crazy to finally be posting something in the Game Development section.

I should have probably been sketching up some plans for the future of m2k last night (or doing coursework), but instead I had MMF2 open and was listening to video game music for inspiration. Hell, it's been too long. That awesome feeling of creating a game cannot be compared to anything, not even creating a sweet website comes close.

I've had loads of ideas over the past two years for possible games, but when it game back to the drawing board, I knew the only option was Flug. One of the main reasons for making a Flug game is the simplicity of saving. I could get away with creating an INI to store name, level and score.

I was tempted to start from scratch, but I decided to open up my Flug Warped engine and bring that up to date (after about an hour studying how I had everything working -_-).

With my solid engine, which plays exactly how I've always wanted Flug to play (just like Flug GB achieved so well), I can develop new graphics, enemies and gimmicks for the levels, and get straight to the level design.

As I plan on having something sweet for m2k for 2012, I think Flug deserves something too.

I've got a load of plans; but I might keep them to myself and just work on the damn thing to avoid becoming a Ringlord.

You know this reminds me, there's been a number of videos I've been wanting to record of the stuff I made. It needs to finally see daylight!

I'm so glad that you're picking Flug back up, poor guy thought you abandoned him!
I expect screenies, fel. I want to see LIFE on this project, just enough to make us even think that something neat is going on.
Post a screenie or two, and our imagination goes to work on the awesomeness that we think is in store. :]

I'm glad you've shown interest guys, makes it worth while.

I do feel I've neglected Flug in recent years and there hasn't been a proper release since Flug Adventure (which itself was cut horribly short).

This time I'm going to set the bar as low as physically possible. I tried to revive Flug in 2010 with the new "Flug the Slug", which was intended to be a new fresh start for Flug. Unfortunately, as much as I tried to scale the project down, it just required too much time and effort. The planned release date of "Early 2011" never came.

www.flugonline.webs.com <- if you remember... a bit dusty now.

This new Flug game is going to be based on a lot of that 2010 work, but will be refined into something else.

What exactly, I don't know.

The engine was pissing me off last night. Might start the whole thing from scratch.

If I do though, it'll most likely never get finished.

That site looks like it was left for dead on the side of the highway. lol :lol:

And those wonderful frustrations. With the joyful love of MMF that returns with the rekindling of a lost friendship, also comes the aggravating pains in the ass that we all knew too well. lol

I figure, since I'm not working on any game projects right now, if I should actually fire up Flug GB and finish the damn thing.
The main thing holding me back with it was the diamonds that reappeared if you died. I have to set the game in all the frames so that you simply respawn (while not in boss battles) so that the frame doesn't restart, because I really want to make the gem collecting a major element in the game.

Fella, you should know you've been the driving force of the forums. You've successfully completed the most games on here, and they were all effective improvements on your ability each time! They were the signs of some hard work, and always made me want to try harder at finishing something! :)

Haha, although sadly I can't deny the truth in that statement. That being said, I'm actually working on something right now. It's not what you think, and I won't say anything about it for the time being. All I will mention is that it's a prototype for something I hope will take on a life of it's own. More to follow when I actually have something to show.

On topic though, it's good that Flug is making a return. Personally I'm all for getting back into the Flug Collab; it still has potential; just I (or whoever wants to take the reins) needs to make some massive reorganizing to make it work.

Tbf, Eric kinda took over the Flug Collab, making the title screen and putting the games together etc. And although he was definitely the best one for doing it, I think it's only fair we blame him for it failing.

Well it's certainly not going as planned! It's bloody Ringlord's fault! He was supposed to be the supervising line manager of the Flug Collab.
