Subject: Re: decompiler
Comments:
VBRezQ is not at all a Decompiler ... Few of the facts about it gathered from its FAQ are here ...
------------------------------------------------------------
Does VB RezQ recover the whole code source?
VB RezQ recovers much of the structure of the program including the GUI elements (form design etc) and the headers for subroutines. It does not recover the actual Visual Basic language code within the subroutines.
------------------------------------------------------------
Why does VB RezQ not recover the actual Visual Basic code within the subroutines?
When VB source is compiled to Native Code the result is x86 machine code and in the process the VB compiler with its various code optimisation features erases much of the structure of the high level Basic language. It's a formidable job to try to reverse engineer this x86 code back into VB code and it's not at all clear to us that it's possible to automate the reversing process.
------------------------------------------------------------
Do you have a version of VB RezQ that is capable of recovering the whole source code?
We don't have any other version that recovers more of the source code.
------------------------------------------------------------
Do you expect the capability to recover the source code within subroutines will be added to VB RezQ?
We don't expect to add recovery of the source code within subroutines. We may at some point add disassembly of the x86 code (so that people can see how far removed from VB code it is)!
------------------------------------------------------------
Are there other software tools that can recover the subroutine code?
For projects compiled to Native code, we are not aware of any tool that will get back the Basic source of the subroutines from the x86 code. We don't expect to ever see one as explained above.
For projects compiled to P-code, there are claims made that tools exist that will recover some Basic source from the P-code. None of these is made available to others as far as we know, but it's possible they may be one day.
------------------------------------------------------------
Guys , don't expect the Decompiler of VB. I hope it will never come in existance. After all I'm also a VB programmer and programming to earn money. I don't want such tools in market to get my source code out of my Exe.
If you want it to Crack the software ... please don't do it and respect others and their hard work.
If you want it because you've lost the source code ... forget about it and start working on new one ... and from today onwards ... don't forget to take BACKUP of your work every day ! ;)

http://www.vbrezq.com/
I found 2300 sites with containing "vb rezq"
I downloaded it 6 months ago. The demo version only decompiles the first source file with all controls but no code. VBRezQ does not recover the source code within subroutines. So if you think its worth it buy the full version for $149.

I don't know why people are so eager to have VB RezQ when it's not going to fulfill there requirement.
And yet this thread is growing and growing day by day ... This forum has started to become a crackers forum or something where no serious talk takes place. I think there is no Moderator for this forum as well.
Well , I have left visiting this forum ; just saw your name in my Inbox and as its always valuable to see your thoughts I came back to this hope-less forum.
I found many other forums where people come to discuss Programming issues rather than asking "Where can I download FREE VB 6.0" or "how can I recover my lost code from Compiled Exe" and thread liek these which quite sound like a crackers demands.
This forum has disapointed me a lot ... I'll never come to this forum to post my queries ... except if I see your Name on some thread ... then surely I'll come to read what you have to say ... But posting new discussion topics on this Forum ??? NO WAY !
Enjoy Crackers ... No Moderator ... world is yours !

WTF. Reverse Engineering is a way to learn, not rip off. And there are plenty of ways doing that without a VB Decompiler. Try a dissaembler, learn just a bit of assembly and you can understand whats going on in your program. Of course this is tedious, but hey, if you know where to look in your code then ... ;)

first of all, I was looking for a decompiler to learn with, I have just started learning VB and have had quite fun with it. for all you lamers looking for the full version of vb6 or whatever, why don't you do what all the other lamer pirates do and use a peer to peer prog. anyways, buying the program allows the developers to improve their software. It is a shame to hear there is no real decompiler =\ but I have found a great site for learning, a site where everyone shares source code so I really don't need a decompiler anymore, if I lose my own source code thats my fault, I should make a backup. Besides i'm a newbie so if I lose anything then it's not much loss right ;) anyways if anyone wants to go share source code it's http://www.planet-source-code.com/vb/default.asp?

Everybody wants a decompiler but if the program is too big they may have a hard time trying to find the line they want to change, when it comes to VB there is so much source code out there that there is not that much need for a decompiler, I was looking for a program to have the computer connect all by itself if disconnected from the web & found a bunch of shareware & then thought might as well check for source & found source faster than the shareware on www.planetsourcecode.com & it works PERFECT!, it is called Dun Re-Connector, it will even compile with VB5 if you use VB6 To VB5.
I myself like to use VB4 in case I upload the source to one of my sites so more folks can run the source, sometimes I even port VB5 down to VB4 but do not have luck all the time doing it, heck my QBasic programs will even handle long file names =8-O

Filegod do you still use VB4 32bit? What advantage is that over VB6? I would have thought that most people would have VB6 by now, its been out 5 or 6 years now. Thou I've only been using VB6 for 18 months because I could load and run most VB6 apps with VB5. There are plenty of free download sites on here, do a search.
If you use VB4 aren't there any conflicts with VB5 or VB6 if there are installed as well?
I used VB5 for 5 years and I could load and run 90% of VB6 apps. If I downloaded any additional ocx/dlls. I still use VB3 and VB4 16bit. Thats because I use the VB2/VB3 decompiler. Thats not to rip people off, thats just so I can see how operations were done before we had all these fancy ocx's.
If I convert VB6 to VB5 then you shouldn't have a problem converting VB5/6 to VB4, they are still 32 bit. Let me know what problems you are having.
Yes, www.planet-source-code.com is the best site for uploading your code. Compared to the other VB sites.

The purpose of wanting a decompiler is; if you made an exe, but lost the code for it in a format or corupt hard drive etc. and still had the exe on disk then you can recover the source from the exe. My recomendation to all is to have a backup of all sourcecode that is important to you on a seperate disk. that way if you format then you have no problems :) if you want the decomiler to reverse a program someone else made, contact the owner of the software and ask for the source code, if they say no then too bad. build your own ;)

This is however *not the case for earlier versions of VB which can be easily and perfectly decompiled.
