Both languages are capable of writing applications for Windows and the Internet.

In my opinion, Visual Basic 6.0 is easier to learn than Visual C++.  Visual C++ is a language that people tend to go on to after Visual Basic 6.0 because it is a more advanced programming language.  I recommend that you start with Visual Basic 6.0.
