Visual Basic 6.0 on my computer has taken up 103MB (I can't remember what method I used to install it e.g. Full, Custom, Minumum etc).
I bought it for £93 ($) at http://www.softwaresavings.co.uk about a year ago; which is about a third of the normal price. But you will probably be able to get it cheaply somewhere in America (I assume that's where you live).
