Question

Subject: Media Player Control
Question: I am trying to use the media player control (msdxm.ocx) in my vb project but every time i try to add it from the components menu i get the error:

'C:\winnt\system32\msdxm.ocx can not be loaded'

I have tried downloading various versions of this file and windows media player but nothing seems to make any difference.

I have also tried regsvr32 to sort it out but that doesnt like it either.

I am running a windows nt4 environment (as part of the corporate network here) and wondered if you knew or know of anyone who might be able to help me with resolving this problem.

Sincerely
Andrew Fovargue

Try uninstalling all versions of Windows Media Player to get rid of it totally.

Download version 6.4 of Windows Media Player from here:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/winmediaplayer/Update/6.4/W9XNT4/EN-US/mpfull.exe

This will add MSDXM.OCX to your system as well as the codecs to be able to play multimedia files.

In Visual Basic, browse to the file in the components dialog, don't just check it. Sometimes it won't work if the wrong case is used e.g. MSDXM.OCX instead of msdxm.ocx.

I don't see any reason why the above shouldn't work. Are you able to open Windows Media Player and play files without VB? Are you able to run programs with MSDXM.OCX that other people have made e.g.:
