Archiving my MediaWiki wiki
Until today, this website had a wiki, which used to be used by previous members of this forum until they moved away. Therefore since it had only been gathering dust (and spammers), I decided that it was no longer necessary. However I still wanted to keep the content, mainly for nostalgic reasons.
The method I used to archive each page was probably a bit long-winded but since there weren't that many pages, it was the easiest choice for me. I know there are programs dedicated to this such as HTTrack, which I used for the old forum, but thought was overkill for this.
For each page, I added &printable=yes to the URL, which made the appearance much more basic. I then viewed the source of the page and copied the relevant HTML section and pasted into my HTML editor of choice (Notepad ++). I added '.php' to the end of each internal link (using find and replace) also intended for archiving and also added header and footer HTML/PHP and then saved as a php file. I downloaded any pictures and changed the links to these in the code to allow the user to click to see the full-size version. Any links to 'User:' were changed to 'User_'.
That is pretty much it and the results can be seen here: Wiki Archive - March 2008 to February 2017. I was several hours work, but I am happy with the outcome.
